I’m very excited to announce that I’ve partnered with the College for Financial Planning (CFFP), and they’ve agreed to provide the Behavior Gap community with 20 scholarships for their Foundations in Financial PlanningSM Program.
When we first discussed this idea, I immediately thought of the individuals who take care of their families’ finances. This course will be incredibly valuable if you’re that person and you just want to make sure you’re making the best possible financial moves for your family.
It’s also an excellent course if you’re considering the financial planning/advice industry as a career or if you’re a personal finance journalist or blogger looking to improve your understanding of financial theory.
The talented instructors at CFFP will be leading the course and classes, and while this is an amazing opportunity, please be aware that it’s a demanding course designed to cover the following areas:
- The Financial Planning Process, Oct. 1
- Financial Statements & Cash Flow Management, Oct. 8
- The Time Value of Money, Oct. 15
- Investment Principles & Mutual Funds, Oct. 22
- Equities & Debt Instruments, Oct. 29
- Tax Planning, Nov. 5
- Retirement Planning, Nov. 12
- Introduction to Insurance, Nov. 19
- Life & Health Insurance, Nov. 26
- Estate Planning, Dec. 3
So what else can you expect?
The course begins September 24, 2013, with an introduction class. Classes will run until until December 3 and then the following two weeks on December 10 and 17 you’ll attend a review class. Plan on a live, 1-hour class and 5-8 hours outside of class for prep work and follow-up study.
You will need access to a computer with an internet connection each week to participate in the class and to do the work the course requires.
If I haven’t scared you off yet, here’s how you can apply:
1) Complete a short (2 minute) video explaining why you’re interested in the course, what you’ll do with what you learn, and who you hope to help with your knowledge.
2) Write a 500 word essay answering these same questions and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If your video or essay is selected, you’ll be asked to provide some more details to complete your application process.
All videos and essays must be received by August 31. I’ll notify all applicants of their status via email no later than September 6.
Finally, I don’t have any set standard in mind as to who will qualify for a scholarship. The more compelling your story, the more likely I’ll be to select you. And to give fair warning, I’ll give more weight to video submissions.
If it helps, your video will only be viewed by myself and two others and will not be made public at any time. Once we’ve awarded the scholarships all videos will be deleted.
Any questions? Email email@example.com.
Note: If you’re considering a financial career, completing this course (Foundations in Financial Planning) and a three-month internship will qualify you to use the Registered ParaplannerSM or RP® mark. You would be required to arrange the internship separate from this course.
